Burundi - Kibira National Park
Created on 12 December 1933 by the Rwandan-Urundi ordinance No. 83 / bis / Agri, the Kibira National Park was established as a forest reserve of the Congo-Nile Ridge. As with all protected areas, the Kibira National Park was institutionalized by Legislative Decree No. 1/6 of March 3, 1980. It extends from Bugarama in the south to the border with Rwanda in the north. a length of plus or minus 80 km and an average width of 8 km. Its area is about 40,000 ha.
He then joins the Nyungwe forest in neighboring Rwanda. It stretches over the provinces of Muramvya, Kayanza, Cibitoke and Bubanza at an altitude varying between 1,600 and 2,600 m. Kibira National Park is an Afro-montane forest composed of three intact forest areas and a very diverse ecosystem.
