Argentina - Australia - Denmark - Workers’ Assembly Halls
Workers’ Assembly Halls is a proposed transnational serial nomination that is representative of the global phenomenon of mass organisation of workers by the international democratic labour movement in the context of industrialisation during the formative period of working-class internationalism from 1850 to 1950. Purpose-built and established by international democratic labour movements from the 1850s onwards, the tradition continues with new workers’ assembly halls still being built today. They are located in proximity to industrial zones or directly related to developing industrial areas and were always managed by international democratic labour movements. They were self-confident in architectural expression and intended to stand out in the surroundings, thereby signalling a permanent presence of the international democratic labour movement. The buildings continue to function as meeting places with public access, either in direct continuation or in clear relation to their original purpose. They are in a good state of conservation and still retain the layout and floorplan of their original function. This includes meeting rooms of various sizes, service areas, offices, often kitchens and sometimes apartments, printing press, cooperative businesses, or other sources of income. Decorations and architectural features intended to motivate a sense of community are also preserved.
Argentina - Sierra de las Quijadas National Park
The Mesowic basins of the central western part of Argentina (Ischigualasto, Talampaya, Marayes, Guayaguas, Quijadas, among others) constituted depocentres that worked from the Triassic to the Cretaceous, generating the accumulation of continental sedimentary sequences under arid to semiarid climatic conditions. These sedimentary basins extend from the foothills of the Andes in La Rioja and Sierra de Valle Fertit in San Juan towards the south up to the Serranias Occidentales de San Luis and underground up to the Beazley Basin (Figure 3). All of them exhibit a rift structure of the hemigrabene type, characterized by an asymmetrical geometry with an active margin on the west and a passive margin on the east. They constitute the outcome of the extensive processes undergone by the South American plate during the Mesozoic, which led to the final collapse of the Gondwana supercontinent and the opening of the Atlantic Ocean. The lshigualasto and Talampaya basins exhibit a series of geological formations that portray the sedimentation of the entire Triassic Period. This can be inferred from the fossiliferous content of these layers as well as from radimetric dating of the volcanic rocks. However, the absence of fossiliferous sediments of the Jurassic and Cretaceous is remarkable, which would document the continuity of the environmental and biological evolution of the Upper Mesozoic. Geological formations of the Jurassic and Crztaceous Periods are found in different and distant areas of Argentina, including La Rioja, San Juan, San Luis, Mendoza and Neuqukn, and a sequence of basins located in the northwest and south of Argentina. The sedimentary outcrops in Sierra de las Quijadas are part of a chain of geological units the detailed study of which has enabled to complement part of the geohistorical and paleobiological information of the Upper Mesozoic in Argentina, which extends over 120 million years (the entire Jurassic and Cretaceous Periods) Sierra de las Quqadas is part of the Serranias Occiderniales Range in the northwest of the Province of San Luis and southwest of San Juan, which extends in the NNW-SSE direction along over 300 km, in discontinuous outcrops. This range exhibits a several-hundred meters-long sequence of sedimentary rocks of the red bed type, which includes several geological units of continental origin. These are known as Quehrada del Barn Formation, Los Riscos Formation, El Jume Formation, L a Cantera Formation, El Toscal Formation, La C m Formation (which includes volcanic rocks) and Largarcito Formation (Figure 4). As a whole, these units form the exposed stratigraphic column of the Mesozoic in San Luis province. From the paleoenvironmental point of view, these units represent a wide range of continental environments, including landslide, alluvial-fluvial, aeolian and lake deposits.

The Valle Calchaquí
The Valle Calchaqui forms a 250 km narrow north-south strip along the Calchaqui river, between the structural units of La Puna and the Oriental Mountain Range. A bunch of secondary valleys and gorges, both longitudinal and transversal, build up the tributary system of the Calchaqui river. Las Conchas gorge is, in turn, a deep fluvial valley of 75 km long, that spreads from Alemania town to the joint of Calchaqui and Santa Matia rivers.
Present environment
Both the north access through the Cuesta de/ ObNpo (Bishop's Slope), as well as the southern one through the Las Conchas gorge, present landscapes of extraordinary beauty and singularity, that mark the entrance to this particular geography. It is also connected, in the north, with the andean town of San Antonio de los Cobres through the mountain pass called Abra de/ Acay.
Argentina - Moisés Ville
At the end of the 19th Century, the difficult conditions, persecutions, pogroms and restrictive laws against Jewish communities in the Russian Empire led to emigration to seek freedom to practice their religion, language and social traditions. Argentina offered those conditions and thousands of Jews emigrated to that country. From 1891 on, the Jewish Colonization Association (JCA), a philanthropic institution founded by Baron Moritz von Hirsch, facilitated their departure and settlement in their new countries. Besides Argentina, the JCA established and supported settlements in Brazil, Canada and the USA. In 1889, Moisés Ville, located in the province of Santa Fe, Argentina, was the first rural Jewish settlement to be established in the country. The first population was a group of families coming from the Podolia region, now in Ukraine.
Argentina - La Payunia, Campos Volcánicos Llancanelo y Payún Matrú

The first has 90,000 ha. of protected reserve, of which 65,000 ha., have been declared a Ramsar site in 1996. It is one of the few areas in the country with a participatory management plan, developed jointly with the residents, and is unique in the world with volumetric limits (600 m high and 600 meters deep), and so the conservation takes into account both, the air and its underground water reservoirs.
The reserve occupies a large depression (endorheic basin) modeled by volcanic processes and is fed by groundwater seepage (Menuco, Cari-lauquen, Carapacho) and surface contributions coming from the Andes (Malargüe River). Its size varies according to season but generally the lagoon is 50 km long from north to south and about 10-12 km wide east-west with a depth less than the meter.

The Provincial Natural Reserve Pehuén co - Monte Hermoso is placed in the districts of Coronel L. Rosales and Monte Hermoso, in the South of the Province of Buenos Aires. It covers an area of approximately 16,2 km2 along the beaches, with an East-West oriented axis, in a very special and well-preserved coastal-sea environment.
In this place, it is preserved, in a section carved by the marine ingression of the Holocene, a geological, paleontological and archeological record of exceptional characteristics. In an extension of about 25 km, different sedimentary formations, whose age decreases from West to East, give us detailed information about the history of life and changes in the landscape over the last 5 million years. Amazingly, although many geographical, climate and biological changes occurred during these years, the conditions enabling the preservation of traces - to a greater or a lesser degree - of the different actors coming and going of that changeable scenery were repeated.
In that limited area, where the oldest visible rocks are continental sediments of the Upper Tertiary, there is an almost unique record that evidences the transformations during the last times of the Cenozoic isolation of South America until the Holocene. For this reason, along some kilometers of beaches, which are enlightened with the rising and the setting of the sun of the Atlantic during summer, rocks evoke very different landscapes formed over time and have been inhabited by species living before and after the Great American Biotic Interchange (GABI). The history written in these strata ends with the last big change of the Quaternary, a process that produced the extinction of dozens of mammals of a South American and North American lineage, the subsequent rising of the sea level as wells as the exploration and the subsequent settlement of old hunter-gatherers who inhabited that place during the early and mid Holocene.
Argentina - City of Tigre and its rowing clubs
The city of Tigre is located 30 Km northwest from Buenos Aires, the capital city of Argentina, in the area of encounter of two geographic systems: the plains known as “pampa ondulada” (undulated pampa) and the delta of the Parana River. In relation with the former, Tigre is located in the low lands crossed by water streams that flow into the Plata River; all this generating wetlands and flood areas. This situation has had an impact on the urban structure and morphology and on the functions that have characterised the town from its very beginning onwards. The urban area surrounded by the Tigre, Luján and Reconquista rivers is the result of the human action on a specific natural environment over four hundred years. The origin of the town is related to the natural port where, over the colonial period (late 16th to 18th centuries), the agricultural production coming from the islands of the Paraná delta where dispatched for consumption in Buenos Aires. The presence of rivers and streams are the basis for an attractive landscape for leisure; the arrival of the railway in 1865 facilitated the arrival of visitors from Buenos Aires and Tigre became one of the first tourism destinations in the country at the end of the 19th Century. It also became the ideal place for water sports, especially rowing. Over the last decades of the 19th Century and the beginning of the 20th, many vacations villas were erected in the town itself and in the neighbouring islands. The construction of the Tigre Hotel, demolished in 1941, and of its complementary Tigre Club reinforced the vocation of the town as an important tourism and excursion destination.
Argentina - Cueva de las Manos and associated sites of the Pinturas river basin
The archeological importance of the Pinturas river basin was first recognized in the Cueva de las Manos, Alto Río Pinturas, research. It is an archeological site with art located over the cave cliffs along the Pinturas river canyon, on the northeast of Santa Cruz province (See the attached map). Magnificent pictographs were discovered in the cave and on several rock shelters, surrounded by an exceptional natural habitat.
Cueva de las Manos was declared National Historic Monument in 1993, Law 24225, and inscribed as World Heritage in 1999.
It is considered the most important cave art site in Patagonia, with well-preserved examples belonging to the early Holocene period in good conservation condition.
The paintings of the cave, rock shelters and cliffs, make a strong impact because of its location over the cliffs that surround the deep Pinturas river basin and the river affluents. They show a profusion of pictorial motifs made with different tones and numberless superimpositions that happened along the last eight millenniums. The pictorial motifs are diverse and there is a great variety of hand prints. Even though this type of artistic manifestation has a universal character, Cueva de las Manos is one of the few places with such a high number of hand stencils that can be found in concentrations of various sizes and shades.
