Morocco - The oasis rosary of Tighmert, Pre-Saharan region of Wad Noun

The oasis of Tighmert oasis, rich in archaeological elements, was the capital of the city of Nul-Lamta, the agglomeration, medieval capital of the north-west Saharan shore until the sixteenth century. It is today a series of palm groves in the rural town of Asrir 12 km south-east of the town of Goulmim 200 km south of Agadir. This rosary of oases, embodied by a set of ksur (sing ksar) along the river Warg-n-Nun from upstream to downstream. It stretches from North-East to South-West under the title Ayt Bakkou, Taourirt, Ayt Massoud, Ayt Mhamad, Ayt al-Khannous, Asrir and Zraywila. The oasis of Asrir being the southern limit of the Rosary is separated from Zraywila about 30 km. The oasis rosary of Tighmert embodies the northern part of the territory of the Azwafit tribe. A genealogical matrix of the Talma confederacy tribes, the Azwafit masters of the oasis rosaries that surround Tighmart, make remains of the city of Nul-Lamta a series of palm groves whose territory materializes a very diversified ecosystem in a subarid zone characterized by a dense arboreal stage where the date palm offers a micro climate for underlying crops. Sporadically, the water sources of the Warg-n-Nun River feed the palm groves of Nul-Lamta by numerous resurgences of the water table, formerly managed according to customary rules of ksur. The oasis rosary has a high quality environment in an arid zone characterized by a shortage of rainfall and the dominance over a long period of the year Chergui (dry) winds that blow and destroy any form of cultivation.
