Central African Republic - The integral reserve of the Mbaéré-Bondingué
The Integral Reserve of Mbaéré-Bodingué is located in the Sangha-Mbaéré prefecture, at the confluence of the Mbaéré and the Bodingué in the semi-deciduous forest.
It is a complex of four zones of intervention of 824.000 ha:
The first so called Rural Development is located near the buffer zone. It is exploited by the villagers and the association ECOFA-RCA which helps to valorize the existing resources.
The second area with an area of about 86,000 ha called Mbaéré-Bodingué, is assigned to the conservation of fauna and flora. It is the area par excellence of large mammals composed among others: elephants (Loxodanta africana cyclotis), bongo (Tragelaphus euriceros), Cobe defassa (Kobus ellipsipygmnus defassa) which normally lives only in savannah zone, primates, including the western lowland gorilla (Gorilla gorilla), chimpaze (Pan troglodytes) and monkeys, including a new species (Cercopithecus cephus ngottoensis) that is unique to this reserve and found nowhere else. We also find amphibians (hippopotamus, crocodile). The unique discovery of single monkey (Cercopithecus cephus ngottoensis) marks the specificity of this reserve. In addition, the flora that is not completely studied includes valuable woody species such as Sapelli (Entandrophragma cylindricum), black Ebony (Diospyros sp) and gives a good idea of all vegetation that is forest type dense semi-deciduous.
The last one is Ngotto Forest, which is an area of pilot forest management experience and constitutes the buffer zone.
