Cameroon - The Diy-Gid-Biy of Mount Mandara

The name Diy gid Biy from which the acronym DGB originates is the name given by the MAFA to the dry stone monuments of the region meaning "Eye of the Chief at the Top" DG131 is one of the most impressive of the 16 sites of dry stone architecture found in the Department of Mayo Tsanaga. The villagers refer to DGBl "the male" and by the same metaphor refer to DGB2 "the female" located 30 meters on the other side of the valley. The site is at the top of a plateau oriented North / South. The dry stone walls have circular and semi-circular shapes surmounted by a platform. The studies undertaken on the site show that the walls and the compartments were built in several stages or successive phases according to the needs of the owners. The construction model varies from one site to another. The characteristic of DGB sites is the use of dry stones as building materials for facing walls or rubble for filling platforms or terraces
