Benin - Lower Ouémé Valley
The “Lower Ouémé Valley” is a set of land and coastal / marine ecosystems particular to Dahomey Gap with species of interest and a set of villages built on the water (lake site) in boxes on stilts with a very original architecture and where the Tofin and Ouémè communities live. These are refuge villages where an already century-old civilization has developed in connection with the ecological dimension. It covers area 1018 of the Ramsar site and protects the basin of the most important watercourse in Benin as well as important biological resources specific to the Guinean part of Benin. It is currently the subject of a submission to UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Program.
