Tunisia - Rammadiya of El Magtaa (El Mekta), the princeps site of the capsian culture
Located in the mountainous chain of El Magtaa in the south of the Tunisian High Steppes, between Oued Sidi Aïch and Oued Safyoun, 10 km north of the current town of Gafsa, the site called "Rammadiya of El Magtaa" is an archaeological site from prehistoric times. It contains remains dating from 10,000 to 7,000 years BP, ranging from the Lower Holocene to the Middle Holocene. The dating of the finds was confirmed by carbon-14 analysis and by lithic industries, design and technological innovation dating back to this time. Located on the hillside, 400 m above sea level, it is formed by an embankment and a platform. The embankment is 60m long and 25m wide.
