Niger - 'W' National Park, archaeological sites
The "W" National Park of Niger classified natural site is considered to be named in mixed site with the presence of prehistoric sites including paleolithic along the Mekrou; the remains of the Kasbah of Koulen and about sixty sites hidden inside the Park.
On a cultural level, the W Park of Niger, an archeological province little known until then, is a Mecca of prehistory in the Sahel region. It is a natural environment with a privileged savannah landscape, since it has played since time immemorial, an attractive role for the numerous prehistoric populations that have succeeded one another along the Mekrou. The first research carried out in the area brings out the wealth of a Sahelian region, whose ancient human occupation has long remained unknown. All the periods are represented, in a long sequence that seems uninterrupted from the Acheulean to the subactual, passing through the recent Paleolithic, the Neolithic and the appearance of an iron metallurgy.
