Niger - The National Nature Reserve of Aïr and Ténéré

The Natural Reserve of Aïr and Ténéré (RRNAT) is already classified natural site is being nominated as a mixed site. The National Nature Reserve of Aïr and Ténéré, covers 77,360 km2 for a 1.218 km perimeter, straddling the eastern facade of the Massif de l'Aïr and the western part of the sandy plain of the Erg du Ténéré and of the Tenere of Tafassasset. It is at the crossroads of paleontology, prehistory, protohistory, the history of the Central Sahara, Central Sudan and the Republic of Niger. The Aïr and Ténéré National Nature Reserve encompasses two main geological areas: a granitic and metamorphic crystalline basement zone which is an extension of the Hoggar Suggarian and a large sedimentary basin, that of the Ténéré Erg and the Ténéré of Tafassasset.
