Niger - The classified forest, Lake Madarounfa and the tombs of the 99 saints
The only important associative or mixed site, a lake, the tombs of the 99 Saints and a forest is located in Madarounfa.
The forest Madarounfa is about 1 km north of the lake. It is classified by Decree No. 4400 of 1950 with an area of 830ha. By being in a valley where the pedo-climatic conditions are favorable to the development of the vegetation (sandy soils of alluvial plains), the forest savannah forest heritage has been well preserved and the floristic composition is varied, composed of species such as: Tamarindus indica; Mitragina inermis; Anogessus leocarpus Acacia albida; Bauhiniarufescens; Acacia seyal; Senegal Acacia; etc.
With its islets and neighboring classified forests, Lake Madarounfa 800ha is a refuge for abundant and varied birds (storks, ducks, teal, knights, camerons, pelicans, etc.). It is characterized by vegetation whose dominant species are: Mitragina inermis, Diosperos mesphilimermis, Acacia albida, Haephaene thebaïca, Piliostigma reticulatum.
