Niger - All the protected forests of the Agadez region
All of the protected forests in the Agadez region have a forested steppe forest formation whose dominant species are: Hyphaene thebaïca, Acacia ehrembergiana, Acacia raddiana, Acacia nilotica, Balanites aegyptiaca, Calotopis procera, Ziziphus mauritiana etc ... .
The Tamazalak forest, one of the main valleys on the western side of the Aïr, is located about 110 km north of Agadez, the capital of the region and 90 km north of Chirozérine. The watershed of this valley of Mount Tadgha (1853 m) to the plain of Irhazer, covers an area of about 90 000 ha.
The Doumeraie Tamazalak, is the last homogeneous population of Doum in the area.
In this series of protected natural sites, one also finds streams and in particular a source exploited in the form of a mineral water (RARHOUS) located in the forest of Tafadek.
This set of forests provides timber for daily use and for sale. It also serves as a pasture area and protects the breeders from near-permanent sandstorms in the area.
