Croatia - Burg - Castle of Veliki Tabor
The Veliki Tabor Castle is a housing, defense and farming complex built on the elongated ridge of the hill not far from the town of Desinic, in a picturesque hilly landscape.
Most of the construction of the Renaissance style dates back to the 16th century and Baroque interventions complemented its development.
The dominant feature of the complex is a massive castle located to the east of the plateau surrounded by the outer defense wall.
The centrally organized polygonal castel is made up of an enclosure with four large horseshoe-shaped towers connected by curtain walls and a central pentagonal structure - "the castle". The robust masses of the castel are covered with steep roofs. The outer side of the perimeter wall has three zones: the lower or oblique foundations ending in a cordon, the mean corresponding to the holding and the upper zone of the first and second floors with the triple stone consoles. In the inner courtyard, there are, on all three floors, the galleries with masonry arcades, except in its western part on one floor, where the gallery is made of wood. The acute angle of the central construction of a pentagonal plane is turned to the west. The ground floor serves as a cellar and the upper three floors served as dwellings.
