Chad - The metallurgical site of Begon II

The metallurgical site of Begon II is located in the southern part of Chad about 150 km from Moundou. The nearest agglomeration, Bessao, is 50 km from the site. The site is 1.5 km from the village of Begon II. The site covers an area of ​​nearly 1800m², and lies exactly on both banks of a valley called "Ka-Ngoi-Bar". The people who worked the iron on this site lived in the village of Bembaïda Manda which is 4.5 km north of the site. The iron from this site, produced between the 9th and 11th centuries, was used at the time, the manufacture of agricultural tools, weapons, and exchange money for Sara peoples. This industrial hearth is an old battery of iron reduction furnaces, which was punctuated by an area of ​​iron slag. An inventory of 53 stoves was made in 2003. There is still on this site the tree species that supplied the charcoal for melting.
