Central African Republic - The rock engravings of Lengo
The village of Lengo is on the Yalinga trail 3 km from Bakouma. The engraving site is located on the right of this track, 1 km east of the village. It occupies an immense lateritic slab, more than 200 m long covered by a patch of topsoil brought by erosion and retained by plants. There are more than five hundred (500) various figurations and several hundred cups of varying diameter are added; they are either isolated or grouped in small numbers.
The technique of engraving is digging by picketing and then partially polished and regularized. The lines are U-shaped and have a depth of 2 cm.
The engravings are divided into three groups:
Animals,
weapons,
Various signs.
The distribution on the support slab does not seem to be subject to any rules. Animal art and schematic art are intimately mixed, which shows that the whole belongs to the same period.
