Cameroon - Archaeological Site of Shum Laka

Located at 15 KM as the crow flies from the city of Bamenda, this large rock shelter of 1200 m2 is located at an altitude of 1500 m on a mountain which has 1969. the Grassfield area between Benue and cross River up to the forest with Nigeria is recognized as the original strain of the Bantu languages. There are lithic industries, remains of fauna and flora, and ceramics. The site seems to be in place, that is, it has not been disturbed. All the found fragments represent typical species of a forest environment whereas today it is a medium of savannah. The man lived on this site 32,000 years ago; 18 skeletons from 3 to 8,000 years BP were found there. It is the only site in Central Africa where we see the evolution of the man from the age of the pirre to the age of metals. There are ancient funerary practices, such as bodies buried back to back and in a contracted position. Preservation of all materials is assured. The site belongs to the MBU-BAFORCHU community. The site has been the subject of the national inventory of cultural heritage. this site being a sacred place for the local population, its protection is assured. This site is unique because in archeology, no site is strictly similar to another.
