Lebanon - Historic Center of Saida

The ancient city, limited to the North by the port and to the South by the old tell (Bronze Age) is organized according to a mesh of narrow and vaulted ways when they pass under a building. The main streets are oriented North / South. The ensemble consists of khans (caravanserais), hammams (baths) madrassas (Koranic schools), shops, workshops, housing and places of worship. There is now in Saïda an Association for the Protection of the Environment and Heritage. The Hariri Foundation funded the restoration of the Great Mosque and Khan el-Franj (Caravanserai of the French). The Municipality of Saïda and the General Direction of Antiquities intervene on public spaces. We will also mention that the area around the historic center is likely to be affected by many important developments in the coming years. A classification would undoubtedly make it possible to elaborate a project conciliating a general safeguard of the place and the social and economic nocessities of the region.
