Gabon - Birougou Mountains National Park
On August 30, 2002, the former Site of Soungou-Milondo was the subject of Decree No. 610 / PR / MEFEPEPN, making it a "National Park of Birougou Mountains", covering an area of 690.21 km2. Located in the south of Gabon, in the Chaillu Massif, the most rugged region of this country with peaks of up to 900m, the Birougou National Park straddles the provinces of NgouniƩ and OgoouƩ-Lolo. south, border with the Republic of Congo. It is a forest region little known botanically.
The Park is characterized by steep hills with rounded or flat tops, which extend between 800 and 900 m in the park and 1022 m on the periphery. It is the most rugged region of Gabon. It is the "water tower" of Gabon and the Niari basin, drained by many rivers including Bouenguidi to the east, Sibi to the North East, Lolo, Yangala, Onoy , North. This hydrographic network includes rapids, falls and waterfalls. The site is recognized for its great floristic and faunistic wealth.
