Spain - Mediterranean Wind Mills

THE GROUP OF WIND MILLS OF THE CARTHAGEN FIELD The Cartagena Field extends to the Sod of the Province of Murcia between the Sierras of Carrascoy and Cartagena. It borders the cute NN: st with the Mar Menor and with, in the West, the Corredor del Guadalentin- on a superticie of 1,700 Km. This valley is a tectonic depression that affects Paleozoic and Triassic strata, which later become covered with neogenic and quaternary sediments, on which we can observe a soil that has more or less evolved. The Cartagena Field is the only large coastal plain, extended like a plane inclined from the monoclinal reliefs of Vi! Loria, Minarete and Altaona (Columbares) on the edge of the Mar Menor which is a large closed lagoon from Cabo de Palos to through the lowlands of La Manga. Julio Caro Baroja in "desertations hard the windmills" recollects the following theories about the origin of his machines: 1) The mills were already known during Classical Antiquity. 2) Muslims were the creators of these devices, when they brought them back to Europe in the Middle Ages 3) The mills for the sale of Holland, Belgium, etc. .. were invoked in XVII century in Western Europe.
