Togo - Fazao Mafakassa National Park

The Fazao-Malfakassa National Park is located in the central section of the Togo Mountains, which gives the area, the variability of the relief and watercourses, the vegetation and the distribution of fauna, and leaves no visitor indifferent. 1. At the floristic level, the Fazao-Malfakassa National Park is included in the mid-altitude subhumid zone (ecofloristic zone V, following the division of VANPRAET, 1980). The beauty and the richness of the vegetation force the admiration. Four facies of vegetation are distinguished: · Semi-deciduous forests characterized by gallery forests with species such as Anogeissus leocarpus of very large size as well as species such as Khaya, Vitex spp, Cola cordifolia, etc. ; · Forests with species such as Afzelia africana, Isoberlinia doka, Terminalia spp, etc. ; · The wooded savannahs of which the most representative species are Prosopis africana, Bauhinia toninguii, Gardenia rubenius, Lophira lenceolata; · Degraded savannahs made from species of the genus Hymenocardia acida, Nauclea latifolia, Lophira lenceolata. There are also graminaceous species in all these ecosystems, including Laggera anxita, Andropogon gayanus, Adonodolichos paniculatum and Pennissetum purperium.
