Haiti - Historic Center of Jacmel
Jacmel was founded in 1698 in favor of the establishment of the sales counters by the company of Santo Domingo, then French colony, on the site of an old pre-colombian village.Sponding to its vocation first port of Like all the cities of the French colonial era, Jacmel is coastal and retains its original urban layout and its orthogonal trace despite its particular topography which has favored the development of pedestrian streets in very original steps. Similarly Jacmel has kept the vestiges of the colonial defensive system particularly those of the big fort which protected with the ramparts "La Petite Batterie" and "Fort Beliot", the entrance to the harbor. But most of all, Jacmel keeps and remembers his recent history, for example, shared by other countries in the region with his role in the liberation movement of South America. Detonated largely during the fire of 1895, Jacmel was rebuilt along the original urban corridor from pre-fabricated houses commanded mostly from Europe, particularly Belgium, giving rise to a typical architecture, original iron and cast iron characterized by a homogenefte of volume, shapes and facades but also by the naffs features of the decor, fantasy of the owner who is at the same time business, trade on the ground floor and lodging .
